MIXING IT UP
Disco house music took an interesting turn towards the end of the 1990's when producers and DJ's from France began to enter the scene with their own take on the traditional sound. Instead of merely celebrating the stylistic leanings usually present in disco house music, new groups such as Daft Punk and Cassius used filtered disco samples as the basis for their own funked-up new creations. Swirling disco strings were amplified by thick, meaty bass lines, and heavy filters on vocals added a modern chic to a popular house genre.

Aside from the crossover appeal of Daft Punk's album work, one of the biggest hits to come out of the revitalized disco house music / filter house formula was ‘Music Sounds Better With You' by Stardust, a group composed of Alan Braxe, Benjamin Diamond and Daft Punk's. Released on one-sided vinyl in 1998 on Roule records, the track was a huge smash. Despite the attention the group received, they remained adamant that the song was a one-off, and they even refused offers of up to 1 million dollars to get back together and put out a second single.
Over time, the new disco house music sound would return to its roots, co-opting new vocals but staying true to the original vibe and aesthetic that had begun so many decades beforehand. Cassius moved in a more soulful direction and Daft Punk became more experimental after the turn of the new millennium, and the surging popularity of electro would dim public interest in the smooth, refined and highly processed sounds of disco house. Few new artists have stepped out with quite the same panache as was found in the wave of creativity that centered around the year 2000, but disco house music has remained a strong sub-genre of the overall house scene.
